We are all apart of some type of demographic age range.
Depending on when we were born decides the demographic we appeal to. If you
happen to be born in the years between nineteen-seventy-seven and two-thousand,
you are considered to be a part of the “millennials.” Millennials are
considered to be very fluent with digital technology. “One thing that all of
the Millennials have in common is their utter fluency and comfort with digital
technology. They don’t just embrace technology, it’s a way of life” Marketing: An Introduction, pg 73. I
myself is a part of the millennial group and I would have to agree with this
statement. I’ve been around digital technology my whole life. It has been a
part of daily life and routine for years, it just seems normal to carry around
a laptop, cell phone, iPod, etc. everywhere I go. Technology is a source of
news, social interaction, work and many everyday tasks. Having social media such as Twitter, Facebook,
Instagram, etc. helps deliver news updates, keeps you updated with everything
that interests you, and connect with people from all over the world. All types
of marketers nowadays target the younger age groups. Anything from car ads to
political campaigns, they’re mostly aimed towards the younger demographic. “Barack
Obama was the first presidential candidate to be marketed like a high-end
consumer brand.” Marketing: An
Introduction, pg 73. Obama targeted the millennial demographic in his
campaign by making a personalized Barrack Obama website that other people
following him could connect with each other and discuss their views on the
campaign, etc. This brought in a record breaking number of young people at the
polls with a shocking sixty-six percent. The campaign was all brought together
with the use of technology and the majority of people following the Obama
campaign were younger people. “All generations are comfortable with technology,
but this is the generation that’s been formed by technology,” Marketing: An Introduction, pg 73.
