Week 8 EOC: The Adventure

It was a windy, cloudy day in Berlin, Germany as Phileas stepped off the train to explore the city. There seemed to be something off about this particular day, like something major was going to happen, either good or bad. Phileas didn’t what and didn’t really pay much attention to this sort of off feeling he was getting this particular day. His time was limited in Berlin, so he had to make sure he saw and got done what he needed to in time for the next train of town. Quickly, he headed toward the inner city to see what it had to offer. The streets were flooded with people, walking in every direction, some bumping shoulders as they passed others, birds seemed to be flying in odd patterns. It almost seemed like the world was not itself that day. “Am I missing something?” Phileas asked himself. Not really thinking too much of it, he carried on with his adventure. He started to get hungry so he looked for a bar nearby to grab a quick bite. After searching through the crowd of people and chewing up a bunch of his time, Phileas at last found a bar. Just like the streets, that too was flooded. Phileas grabbed himself a table and waited for the bar to clear up. It took, a little bit of time but he finally got a beer and placed an order for food. He ordered a basket of fries and wings. Not an unusual bar order but just enough to get him by. After about thirty to forty-five minutes and a couple beers, Phileas started to get upset about still not receiving his order. Knowing his time in Berlin was coming to an end, he confronted the bar tender. “Where the hell is my food? It’s been forty-five minutes, I’m starving and my train leaves soon.” “Sorry sir, we’re a little backed up at the moment. I’ll see what we can do for you. Is there perhaps something else I can get you while you wait?” “Jesus, this is ridiculous! I demand the best damn thing on your menu and I definitely don’t expect to be paying for this!” “Certainly sir, we’ll get something going for you right now!” The bar tender came back five minutes later with two plates; one with his wings and fries, and the other with something that Phileas couldn’t’ keep his eyes off of. “Here you go sir,” said the bar tender, “here is your wings and fries, and also I brought something special on the house.” “What are these things?” asked Phileas. “These sir, I present to you are ‘Poppin Pretzels’. Filled with melted cheddar cheese, bacon and sausage. Here, try one.” Phileas took one bite and BAM, his eyes lit up with satisfaction. “My god, these are delicious! It has every element I look for in a bar snack; crunch, cheese, and meaty and greasy. PERFECTION!” The poppers were so good, he asked for the recipe and took it back home with him.

Week 7 EOC: The Pitch

For my country and bar food choice I chose Germany and sausage-and-cheese-filled Pretzel Poppers. Germany is famous for their delicious pretzels that go hand in hand with a nice cold beer. There are infinite ways you can modify a pretzel and combine it with something else to make a delicious snack. One thing that I also noticed is that Germany has a big name for their sausages. Thus is how I came up with the idea for the sausage-and-cheese-filled pretzel poppers. They will be bite-size poppers filled with cheese and sausage bits. There will be a variety of types of poppers as well. Some kinds will include bacon and cheese-filled, jalapeno and cheese-filled, and jalapeno and sausage and cheese-filled poppers. You can get a small plate that contains ten poppers for $4.99 or a large plate with twenty-five for $6.99. I will call these poppers, “Poppin Pretzels.” The poppers will have a melted cheddar cheese and small bits of bacon, sausage, or jalapenos filled on the inside. The outer pretzel shell will be warm and have bit of a crispy, crunch to it and lightly salted, like every great pretzel should be. I feel like these will go great with a cold beer because it will contain a slight crunch, meat, and cheese, three things that go well with beer. They’ll be cheap, tasty, and something to share with a group of friends, or if you’re not feeling friendly, they can be all for you. 

Week 6 EOC: Three Things That Define Me

The three things that I own that define me would have to be my drum set, iPod, and my The Devil Wears Prada tattoo. I’ve been playing drums since I was about six or seven years old so they’ve been a pretty big part of my life. Ever since I got my first kit, playing drums or being around music is all I saw myself doing with my life. To this day, thirteen years and three drum kits later, I still have a passion for playing. I always wanted to be in a band and tour around the world (like most musicians) and still have hopes for that dream to come true. Playing drums is an outlet, a source of meditation, and a way of challenging myself and pushing myself one extra step every time I sit down and play. The next thing that would define me is my iPod. My iPod contains music of all sorts of genres. Anywhere from classic rock to indie/alternative to heavy metal. It is a collection of all the music I’ve listened while I was growing up to everything I’ve found in recent years of finding new bands and artists. Everywhere I go, my iPod goes. Ever since I got my first iPod back in the sixth grade, it has become an necessity. You never know when you’re gonna get stuck somewhere and have nothing to do but kick out the jams. The third thing that defines me is my Devil Wears Prada tattoo. The Devil Wears Prada is more of a heavy metal/metalcore band that my older brother showed me when I was in the fifth grade. My first reaction; I absolutely hated it. I had never listened to anything like them before and I was not a fan at all. I grew up listening to some pretty heavy rock like Saliva, Linkin Park, Breaking Benjamin, etc., but nothing quite like them. It took me a few listens after a couple months of hearing them the first time and it grew on me. The fast, heavy instrumentals, synth leads, and gnarly screaming vocals was just something I found awesome and adrenaline rushing. It made me just wanna rage in a crowd at a show or something, I loved it. After getting like them and know them better, they started becoming a daily listen, at least five to eight time a day. Come sixth grade, I went to my first concert ever with two of my best friends at the time. Just so happen to be that The Devil Wears Prada, Underoath, and Saosin (two other bands I heavily listened/still listen to). It was the most ideal first concert twelve year old me could ever ask for. Since then, TDWP have released five full lengths and two concept EP’s (all which are awesome), and I’ve seen them about eight or nine times, they have become my favorite band. I took a graduation trip to Europe after my senior year in high school and while touring Spain, some people wanted to get tattoos and piercings. I was all in and had wanted to get the TDWP logo as my first tattoo no matter what. And so I did and it shows my love for the band throughout their career and my dedication as fan to their music.

Midterm EOC: Job Recruiters Turn To Facebook

In todays world, you can get a job doing just about anything. There’s endless amounts of employers out there with infinite job categories.  But that has been like that for years. One thing that is changing though, is how you get a job in today’s world. If you’re used to the “old fashioned” style of getting a job such as going into an employer and applying for a job, you might want to rethink your job search strategies. Have you ever heard anyone say “connect or meet as many new people as you can” or something along those lines? Well that’s the way the world is going nowadays. Employers are turning to social media websites such as Facebook and LinkedIn so find to employees. “More companies are trying to tap Facebook Inc.'s 750-million-plus user base to find new employees, threatening traditional job boards and competing with LinkedIn Corp., which has dominated the online professional networking arena.” Job Recruiters Turn to Facebook to Find Candidates - WSJ.com

A lot of companies have already started to take down their job boards in terms of saving money on job posts. “Candidates have been 50% more likely to apply to positions they found through Facebook than through other means, said Mr. Staney. "[Job boards] just blast it out. This is much more efficient and targeted," he said. Job Recruiters Turn to Facebook to Find Candidates - WSJ.com. Instead of you coming to them, employers often spend time surfing through social media websites searching for new people to connect to and hire. Although, this has upset many people, thinking that it is “invasive.” Employees want their employers to keep their personal and professional lives separate from each other, which is completely understandable. I feel like this can be both good and bad for companies and employers. I think it can be good because it is a new way of finding new potential employees. It can be bad because this stops you from having that first initial impression of the person you may or may not hire. You have no idea what they actually look like or what type of a person they are from just reading their bio on some social media website.

Week 4 EOC: New App

In today’s modern world, there are hundreds of thousands of apps in existence and they continue to be created everyday. There’s an app for this, there’s an app for that, there’s an app that literally does nothing. If you can think of it, there’s probably an app for it. If I had to design and create my own app, I’d design something that help you find out information on your favorite bands/artists based on the music you have loaded on your phone. You can stream songs, read their biography, watch any music videos the band/artist has, look up tour dates, keep updated with their social media posts along with any other big news, and buy merchandise. It will keep a note of all your favorite artists and suggest similar bands/artists. You will also be able to buy and directly download music to your device and keep everything organized in a music library. Also, this will be a way to help you possibly find your next favorite artist/band.  There are many apps out there that allow you to do all of these things, but you have to have a separate app for each thing that you want to do. This app will include all of these services for a quicker, faster, and more convenient way of looking up your favorite artists and finding new ones. The name of the app will be called “Tune In.”
